One to One Training

We can provide support with training for dogs of all ages, regardless of if you require protection training or not, including those with behavioural issues.

What is one to one training?

One to one training is personal, hands-on coaching where the trainer works directly with you and your dog. You get tailored help and guidance, focusing fully on your situation. Sessions are built around your needs, your dog’s behaviour, and your goals. This isn’t a group class. You get a trainer’s full attention for practical skills that matter in everyday life. It helps make your dog a reliable companion – whether for family protection, household obedience, or specific scenarios.

What kind of dogs do you work with in one to one training?

Most families and individuals benefit from one to one training. This service suits:

  • Dogs of all ages, from puppies to adults
  • Owners who prefer a private, focused approach rather than group sessions
  • Families that want a pet with off-lead control and safety
  • Dogs with a bite history or risk
  • People with dogs who react strongly to distractions, new environments, or guests
  • Owners of working breeds that need structured obedience and boundaries

If you want your dog to understand clear rules, act calmly, and react only on command, one to one training works. The sessions adapt to your needs, so you set the priorities.

Andy Fairweather

FIFE, SCOTLAND

Andy’s interest in working dogs began in his teens, when he started training spaniels and labradors from local gamekeepers for the shooting field. Over the years, he has spent time with his own dogs in both training and real-life settings, focusing on practical skills and reliability.

Alongside his experience with dogs, Andy has developed a strong understanding of human behaviour, having worked in life coaching and studied NLP. This allows him to see training from both the dog’s and the handler’s perspective, tailoring his approach to fit each partnership. Whatever the discipline, Andy’s philosophy is to combine clear communication and motivation with patience and kindness, aiming for confident, well-balanced dogs and handlers alike.

JIM ROBERTSON

WEST LOTHIAN, SCOTLAND

Jim’s practical background includes years of working with spaniels, not only in day-to-day training but also competing at field trial level up to championship standard. He’s also had the honour of representing Scotland with his spaniels, an experience that deepened his appreciation for teamwork and consistency.

Whether working on obedience, social adjustment, or protection scenarios, Jim supports clients with honest feedback and steady guidance. He believes successful placements go beyond basic obedience, aiming for full integration and confidence, always based on trust, patience, and practical experience.

I would like to say a big thank you to Jim and all the team at protection k9 Scotland. We are so grateful for all the work and time put in to giving Luna all the training. She has benefited from it so much, and has came home as one happy girl. Would highly recommend them.
Jim Cameron
The level of training is incredible — Otis is not only super obedient and confident, but still as loving and loyal as he was before his training started. What we really appreciated was how much time they spent making sure we understood everything, from handling to ongoing training. Andy and Jim didn’t just hand over Otis and disappear — the support afterwards has been fantastic. If you’re thinking about getting protection K9 Scotland to help train your dog, I honestly wouldn’t go anywhere else. These guys are the real deal — professional, trustworthy, and passionate about what they do.

I can’t thank Protection K9 Scotland enough for their support and expert advice. Rosie has come on so well — the difference is amazing. The new collar has been a total game changer, giving me so much more control and confidence on our walks. Their guidance was clear, kind and professional, and it’s been a real success for both Rosie and me. Highly recommend to anyone looking for real results and genuine care for their dog.

I am mind blown at the change with my boy after 3 weeks residential , before he would lunge bark and just throw himself at people , dogs and even kids , I picked him up and done my handover sessions and I am amazed at how well he walks to heal and all those behaviours he showed before don’t exist anymore !! his recall is amazing , he’d never been let off the lead prior to this , 1 million percent recommend these guys , just take the risk and send your dog I promise you’ll get amazing results 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Oakley Byrne
We started training with Andy—great guy who really knows his stuff.
I had always been against e-collar training, but after speaking to Andy, I quickly learned and got educated with the proper facts and benefits, should I decide to go ahead with it.
My dog is now fully off-lead. We can walk past dogs and people with no issues. He has been off-lead and has seen deer and 20-odd baby rabbits within just a few feet—and he does not chase. All of this without even having to use the collar, but it is there should we ever need it.
All our walks are now stress-free and off-lead, which is a massive achievement. My dog now has more freedom and a better quality of life.
Anne-Marie Noble
I would highly recommend Protection K9 Scotland, I booked my dog in for 3 weeks residential training and I am amazed at the results. Before he would pull all the time plus he was reactive to dogs and people. After his training, he is able to walk past them and there is no reaction from him which is fantastic. Andy & Jim have gave me the confidence to walk my dog without having to walk in the opposite direction if we see another dog.

How our one to one dog training service works

One to one training is personal, practical, and hands-on.

Sessions are at times that suit you. You get privacy, no group distractions, and direct instruction. During each session, the trainer shows you what to do and explains why each step matters. You learn how to give clear commands, read your dog’s body language, and reinforce good behaviour. Practical exercises involve you and any family members who help care for the dog.

One to one training suits your pace. You don’t move on until you and your dog are comfortable. You always know what to work on between sessions, and you get honest feedback throughout.

At the end, you have a dog that’s reliable and settled in your home. The whole process is about building trust, clarity, and long-term peace of mind for you and your family.

Initial Assessment

We gather information about your dog’s background, behaviour, and household needs. Together, we set clear goals. You get honest advice on realistic expectations.

Private Environment Education

Early sessions take place in low-distraction settings. Your dog learns basic commands, boundaries, and calm behaviour.

Proofing Behaviours

Your dog is exposed to real-world situations. This could be outdoors, around other dogs, or with new people. This builds reliability and manages reactions to distractions.

Advanced Obedience

Training then covers more complex tasks. Off-lead control, scenario-based drills, and specialist exercises are included for those needing specific issues addressed.

Continued Support

After main sessions finish, support continues. You can access advice for maintenance training or upgrades. The team is available for questions as you integrate training work into family life.
