What is residential training?
Residential training is when your dog comes to live with an expert trainer for a set period. Your dog isn’t boarded in isolation but lives as part of a daily structured routine. Each day includes clear structure: walks, obedience practice, calm downtime, and controlled exposure to new places and people. It is a full reset for dogs struggling with unwanted behaviours, as well as a boost for dogs at the start of advanced obedience or protection work.
Not all issues can be solved in short, hourly sessions. Some dogs need immersive, day-to-day learning that can't happen in a class or at home. Residential training gives your dog time to learn new habits and practice them until they stick.
We only have a small number of residential dogs with us at any one time. This allows us to give the dog our full attention as they require to complete our intense training package.

How our residential dog training service works
The process starts with a call or a visit, so the trainer can understand what you need. We learn about your dog’s habits, triggers, history and your own goals. A plan is then set, tailored for your dog, not a generic checklist.
The typical stay is three to five weeks. For complex protection or behaviour cases, eight weeks may be needed. Timelines are honest as possible. We make no false promises or rushed handovers.
Residential training at Protection K9 Scotland is a simple, honest way for dogs and owners to make real changes. It works when owners want help beyond what a class or occasional lesson can offer. We put the welfare and stability of every dog first, using ethical practices and real life as the training ground. Every step, from assessment to aftercare, is about clarity, respect and genuine support - so the progress sticks long after your dog comes back home.
Residential training can range from 2 to 4 weeks with the most popular packaged being the 3 week residenetial training
